Madrid, in the ‘Top Ten’ of the Best Cities to Live for Expats
Madrid is one of the best valued cities of the world in terms of quality of life for expats, according to the latest InterNations report, an expats network and global guide that has been publishing this list for five years.
To obtain the data, InterNations surveyed about 8,000 expats living in 40 countries. It included only the cities mentioned at least 45 times. The rankings of cities with greater job opportunities and quality of life were determined based on quality and cost of urban life, quality of working life and finances, and ease of settling in the city.
Expat families are especially well received and cared for in Spain – ascending 18 places in terms of family life compared to 2016, the country is seen as one of the best places for families, since it ranks eighth in 45 countries.
Specifically, parents value the availability and cost of education, as well as the care of children: Spain is among the top 10 countries in the world for both aspects.
A British expat in Spain emphasizes the “great family culture” there, and 91 percent of parents living in Spain feel satisfied with the friendly attitude of Spaniards towards families with children.
Not only expat families feel welcome in Spain; more than half of expats in Spain (52%) find it easy to make local friends. In fact, more than three quarters of them consider it is easy to settle in Spain; they explain that they feel at home in the local culture (77% in each aspect), compared to a global average of only 59 and 60 percent of the expats. Several respondents highlight the “relaxed lifestyle” of Spain, putting emphasis on life outside of work.
